What DDP actually covers
DDP stands for Delivered Duty Paid. Under DDP the seller is responsible for the goods until they arrive at the buyer's named address, including:
- production and pre-shipment inspection
- export packing and export clearance
- main freight from China to the destination port
- import clearance and payment of duties and taxes
- onward delivery to the hospital or clinic address
This is different from FOB or CIF, where the buyer takes over at the port of loading or the destination port respectively and handles import clearance themselves. Under DDP the buyer receives one price covering the equipment and the delivery, and does not need a customs broker of their own.
Why clinics in Algeria choose DDP
A veterinary hospital buying operating tables is not an import trading company. The team's attention belongs on room layout and installation, not on clearance paperwork. DDP removes three practical problems:
- Budget certainty. Duty and freight are included in the quotation, so the landed cost is known before the order is placed rather than discovered at the port.
- No broker required. The buyer does not have to appoint and coordinate a customs agent.
- One point of contact. If something goes wrong in transit, the seller owns the problem.

How the operating tables are packed
Operating tables are heavy, top-heavy and easy to mark, so packing matters more than it does for flat equipment. Before shipment each unit is:
- wrapped in stretch film over the full 304 stainless steel tabletop and column
- secured to a wooden pallet so the table cannot shift or tip inside the container
- shipped with the hand controller and foot pedal wrapped and tied to the unit rather than left loose
- checked for edge and corner protection, because a marked stainless surface is clearly visible in a surgical room
The photographs in this article show the packing as it leaves the factory: tabletop, electric column, hand controller and foot pedal are all film-wrapped together on a wooden pallet.
Pallet dimensions and weights are issued before shipment, so you can plan door width, floor loading and unloading equipment at your end.
The DDP process from order to hospital
- Specification and quotation. Model, quantity, delivery address and required date confirmed in writing.
- Production and inspection. Tables are built, then checked before packing.
- Export packing. As described above, with the packing list prepared alongside.
- Export documentation and booking. Space is booked and export clearance completed.
- Sea freight. The shipment moves to the destination port.
- Import clearance and duties. Handled on the seller's side under DDP.
- Delivery. The goods are moved to the address you provided.
- Unloading and positioning. Agree in advance who unloads and who positions the tables in the rooms.
What the buyer still has to arrange
DDP changes who handles customs. It does not remove every responsibility from the buyer:
- Full delivery address and access details. Gate width, lift capacity, floor level and any restrictions on delivery times.
- A named contact who can receive the shipment and sign for it.
- Unloading arrangements where the delivery vehicle cannot wait on site. Tell us in advance whether a forklift is available.
- Power supply confirmation. Algeria runs on 230 V / 50 Hz, so confirm the motor and control voltage on the quotation before production starts.
Documents issued before shipment
The commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading are prepared before the goods leave. A certificate of origin is added where the destination customs authority requires one. You receive copies so the receiving site knows exactly what is arriving and when.
What to confirm before agreeing to DDP
- Whether DDP is offered for your specific destination address.
- What is included and excluded. Offloading, internal distribution and installation are often treated separately.
- Who is the importer of record on the paperwork.
- What happens if clearance is delayed, and what the supplier commits to in that case.

Is DDP more expensive than FOB?
The line price is higher because freight and duties are included. The meaningful comparison is the landed cost at your door, which is exactly what DDP shows you up front.
Can installation be included?
Installation guidance can be supplied and the scope is confirmed at quotation stage. Mechanical positioning of heavy tables on site is normally handled by the buyer's team or a local contractor.
